the term “shoot & share” has been floating around the photography community and in an effort to unpack that term for my clients, i thought i’d share a little bit about why i have decided to run my business as a “shoot & share” photographer.

the wedding photographer’s industry has changed quite a bit in the last 5 years, let alone since my parents were married. i remember hoisting myself up on the couch in the formal living room that we never used in my house as a little girl. i used to pull my parents’ wedding album from the coffee table, plop it on my lap and spend some time carefully turning its pages. i did that a lot, always loving the artistry of it. even then, i appreciated the work of the photographer. it was truly a fine art photography album, with blended film exposures, gorgeous portraits, allowing the onlooker to grab the feel of the day. it even smelled timeless.

i remember a few years ago, asking my mom about that process. how she chose her photographer, how much it was, and the post process. they paid a hefty amount for their photographer because it was important to them but then they also paid for all of the prints and images after.

i decided then that i wanted my clients to have their images. my business is not product-based. i truly feel that my clients should have their images to share, keep, and freak over. while i do offer albums and canvas prints as a la carte items with my wedding collections, the images of their day are always sent to them directly in an online gallery that is downloadable & shareable.

if my clients are thrilled with their images, i love that they are sharing them and raving about them on facebook. if they’re proud of their images, so am i. the more the images are shared, the more word of mouth is generated for jordanquinn photography. it’s a great thing…and the reason for most of the business coming my way in these past few years. sharing is caring and allowing my couples to keep & share their images with the world is how i’m loving them and caring for each couple individually.

the way i see it, my clients have hired me to capture their most precious moments for an allotted amount of time. my goal is to capture the whole story of our time together. who am i to hoard those images? once edited and post-processed, i like to show off those stories and so should my clients.

so there it is. i “shoot & share.” that way of running my business has grown it so far beyond all of my expectations and i ain’t changing it. i see it as a way to serve my couples, to share their stories, and to add value to the product they’re receiving from me. happy clients, happy life…or something like that.
