i was lying awake in bed one night, as i usually do, and i thought, “what if i could get to know seattle a bit more? more specifically, its small businesses. as a small business owner myself, i am constantly wanting to learn more about how to better run things. as a people person, i wanted to connect with my city. as an entrepreneur, i longed to get to know others that were out there living out their crazy ideas- the ideas that probably came to them while they were lying awake in their beds one night.

it goes without saying that there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes of small businesses. and all that goes on “behind the biz” deserves to be recognized. there are always interesting details to discover and stories to find there. so i decided to break out of my comfort zone a bit and seek out those small businesses, their owners, and the teams that make them work. i started getting in touch with some of my favorite businesses around seattle that i’ve discovered over the past 2 years here and explained my idea. the feedback and interest has been overwhelming and i’m beyond excited to share stories of success. maybe you’re interested to hear all about it like me. maybe you’d like to learn how others did it, how they ARE doing it. opportunities are being seized, people are making things happen. people are seeing a need and creating ways to meet those needs with their own two hands with whatever they’ve got. and, well, isn’t that what it’s all about?

i’m so excited about this project. i’m eager to see what doors may open if i use what i have to tell the stories of others. if i just quit talking about it and make it happen and if i step to the side, this can become so much more than just stories of businesses. it can become a source of inspiration, or at the very least, a way to find out about some seriously amazing people, products, and places.

tomorrow, i’m going to share the story behind not without salt. ashley rodriguez is one heck of a go-getter and it’s inspiring to see what she’s created with her gorgeous food blog that has become so loved by so many around the world. she has let the success of that food blog propel her to create a tangible delicious product and a cookbook that’s soon to be released – all the while using that platform to raise awareness about a cause near and dear to her heart.

i hope you’ll join me tomorrow for a look behind the biz of “not without salt.” because crazy ideas should be pursued. and when they are, great GREAT things can come of them.
