it’s been quite the busy season here in the smith household. with my very full wedding season winding down and billy’s crazy football season gearing up, we knew we needed to take a quick break when we could. labor day weekend wasn’t in the cards but we found ourselves with 2.5 days of freedom this past weekend so we planned a short getaway to oregon. ever since we moved to the pacific northwest, we have wanted to travel down to the coast of oregon and into the gorge area near portland. there is so much beauty to behold in that state.
we took our time and fully took in the sites of cannon beach, ecola state park, indian beach, the columbia river gorge historic highway, oneonta gorge, and multnomah falls. we even squeezed in dinner at a diners, drive-ins and dives spot in portland (frank’s noodle house– delicious!) and enjoyed some local brews by the columbia river at thunder island brewing.
billy and i tend to relax on trips when we have a few key spots that we want to see and then let the rest fall into place. that’s how we honeymooned in italy. not too much planned, with room for last minute stops and uninterrupted adventures. time away with my husband was so very needed. time away together reminds us of how good life is together and how important it is to fuel that joy that we bring out in each other. it also reminds me of the best decision i ever made to marry that boy.
if you’re thinking of exploring oregon, just do it. you won’t be disappointed. each spot lived up to all of our expectations and so much more.
